Communicating Via BLOG

The blog assignment was very creative and definitely a way to make students think. I personally enjoy this assignment because it had thought me something that I did not know like creating a blog and how people like me that do not like to chat can post an information or comment without having to answer back to people’s comments.

I have very highly evaluation for the use of this blog for this class. However, I did not do very well on my personal blog due to my lack of time to do homework. I was always late for my entries but I make sure to post my assignments. Otherwise, this been an interesting, unique and effective way to get value from this class as you professor said and I totally agree. I strongly think that the blog should remain a component of this course and it does not need any improvement besides of your creative, motivating and thoughtful topics to write about. Thank you professor kurpis it was a great pleasure to meet you. KEEP UP THE GOOD JOB!!!!

MANAGEMENT POEM

Being a manager is been a leader
Being a leader is about to be follow,
Being follow is to posses’ power,
Having power is the influence of making a change
And making a change is what LIFE is about.

The ABC’s of DISC

I had experience this type of evaluation test in the banking industry and in a psychology class in college. I never knew what was my result but I was hired for the position in sales that I was applying for and in my class I did very well. In regards to the evaluation test done in class I found it to be very creative and fun. My result was C1 and I2. According to the letter explanation this mean that I am an analytical, diplomatic and influence type of personality. The test got it right and this only explains my interest in politics and finance, which are very analytical and influence fields. I am very proud of my own personality and the way I think, therefore, I wish not to be any different or another type.

I strongly agree that it is helpful to determine people’s management type to better understand where they are coming from especially to those people that get confuse and lost frequently. I do not think this is a dating tool; romantic relationships are very complex and unpredictable. Therefore, this type of evaluation tests can only work on specific matters like a personality check.

EXTRA CREDIT ASSIGNMENT

The fast food restaurant industry is not one of my best, due to my weight watcher plan that keeps me away from them. It has been the first time in years that I walk in side a McDonald’s restaurant just with a specific reason of having this project done. The project was as follow: to place an order from the dollar menu of one small hamburger with four pickles on it and one small order of French fries with no salt.

I went to the McDonald’s restaurant in my neighborhood located at 1982 Westchester Avenue & Pugsley Bronx, NY 10462. The restaurant was nice and clean. It did not look, as it was busy but they were like five tables occupied, two register open and like three people waiting in each line. I got on line and I lasted like ten minutes before the cashier could take my order. The cashier’s name was Maria. She was very professional and her uniform was perfectly set. When I place the order she repeated the order for me to make sure that was what I wanted. Then she as a moment and went to the back to speak to the cookers about making my special Hamburger and on her way back to the front she spoke to the person handling the French Fries in regards to do not put any salt to the next French Fries out of the dip fryer. Then after, she came back to the register, charge me and as me to step a side so she could take the next customer. Finally, some girl I guess helping, handle me my order and I walk out of the restaurant heading home.

As I explain, in the exact process four people got involved. It took like ten to fifteen minutes to finish my order. While I was ordering and waiting for my order the service was good and fast. The order was not completed correctly. I got three pickles in my hamburger instead of four pickles as it was stated.

The cashier did everything to manage my special order correctly. She contacted the person in charge of making the hamburger and advised the person taking care of the French fries to do not put any salt till she had taken my fries out. The only person that it did not follow the especial instruction was the person in charge of making the hamburger by missing one pickle. The communication happen, the coordination worked, customer service was there but the manufacturing fail due to time efficiency. I think that if the person in charge of making the hamburger had spend the time and attention to the special instructions they would have done it the right way at the first time. Overall, I will rate this McDonald Restaurant as “need to improve” because they did not give me completely what I especially order and that’s a very big problem.

If I were brought in, as a consultant to McDonald’s to help them improve their efficiency, I would recommend that customer satisfaction is what they should be focusing in as well as managing time efficiency to work in effecting customer satisfaction. This mean to get what the customer wants fast and right at the first time.

The Power of Vision

I strongly agree that it is very important to have a vision. I had always leaded my life with goals because I need to have a focus on where I want to go and how I get there. So, I move my life and make important decisions that will help me towards my goal. My vision within five years after I graduate from Baruch College is as follow: one, I would like to have my own business as a financial consultant for new small business owners. Two, I want to be the director of a governmental/ official elected candidate office. Three, I would like to be married by them and have at least one child. Four, I would like to have my dream house with a big backyard by them. And last but not least, I would like to have my dream car a new Lexus truck.

My life is about having goals and accomplished. Therefore, I am moving my life towards my goals every day. Starting with, why I’m studding finance and investments along with my strong baking background and highly sales experience is only for me to be able one day to have my own financial consultant firm for small business owner. Then, my participation in local and international politics is to some day if possible within five years or less because there are elections in 2008 is to implement my managerial experience in directing an office of an elected official to help the country and different minority groups. On the other hand, I am working on finding the man of my life, which I will marry him, have children with and live happy ever after. Overall, as I will have my own business and I will be directing a governmental office and with my husbands help, I will have enough money to buy myself my dream house and buy my dream Lexus truck. As I always said, with goals, determination, hard work and believing you can do it; the skies are the limit.

Decision Making

Our class decision making exercise on Monday, October 15, 2007 in regards to the first test we had, was a big chaos. Due to a group of people that had different ideas that wanted to implement and the other group that did not want to give more benefits to those that did not do well on the test because they thought it was not fare to them. Me personally took the compromise way to handle the chaos for one reason; I had a terrible flu and lost my voice. I could not express my opinion; I try but it did not work. Therefore, I decided to agree to whatever the class agrees to.
I think the class process was democratic and fair. The only thing I would have change was the fact that students went crazy talking all at the same time to then vote for a final proposal. The way I would have chosen was that everybody quietly had raise their hand to agree to a proposal or raise hand to make their statement. It would have been an organize activity and we would have had more time to make a better proposal.

An eggs-cellent way to plan!

My group’s planning process was an excellent example of a team that works together. We all added our ideas on the egg design and we made a plan. We actually bypass, most of the planning process like: define your objectives; determine your current status vis-à-vis objectives, develop premises regarding future conditions and implement the plan and evaluate results. We implemented the plan and tested in front of the class, which, we failed because the egg cracked. As a team we should’ve develop a contingency plan to evaluate the design performance.
We did very well as team but we did not make a great strategy design for a great result.
